The temple lies around 20 kilometres from Puri. It is situated in the outskirts which makes this place quite serene and peaceful. The fields replace the traffic here, the houses become smaller and the roads become often surrounded by lush green fields.

Sakhigopal temple puri sits in a quiet town. There is no rush, no constant horns and the overall days feel slow in a good way. What is the Sakhigopal Temple Story?

A very long time ago, there were two friends. One of them was rich and the other one was poor. The rich friend promised the poor friend that he will be willing to help when in need in front of Lord Krishna in Vrindavan. Later, the rich man refused that any sort of promise was made by him. The poor man was totally heart broken and he was heart broken by the fact that he had no proof.

So the poor man walked back to vrindavan to ask Lord Krishna to become his witness for the promise. He said, “Let the Lord be my witness.” and pleased Lord Krishna.

And according to belief, Lord Krishna himself walked from Vrindavan to Odisha behind his devotee. Step by step in silence following his devotee. When the village people asked for proof, Lord Krishna himself appeared here as Gopal and told everyone the truth. No thunder, no sky opening, just his presence with the truth. The temple slowly rose around it. People don’t argue about logic, they listen.

There are so many temples all across the world and our country which are filled with Krishna devotion, although I must say akhigopal Odisha holds a quite a very strong position. Not powerful because of scale. Powerful because of trust.Devotees believe this is the place where God did not send a sign. He came by himself. That thought changes how people stand inside the temple. The devotee’s shoulders are relaxed, the Heads bow slowly.
