It belongs to what people loosely call Waterfall Mayurbhanj, but even there, it stays separate, quieter and less touched.
The waterfall lies close to Udala Mayurbhanj, inside forest-covered land. Houses appear for a moment but mostly it’s a huge patch of green land with huge tall trees. Travelers moving across Mayurbhanj tourist places sometimes cross this route without stopping. It’s a serene and peaceful ride towards Udala Mayurbhanj.
Water behaves differently here. During the monsoon, Macchakandana waterfall spreads wider, stronger, louder, hitting stones without hesitation. During winter, it narrows, slowly but is still moving. Rocks stay dark, always wet, and can get quite slippery at times even when the sun is out.
Locals sometimes call it Machakanda falls. Same water, same place but different sound of the name.People don’t shout here. They lower their voice without noticing. Phones come out but rarely for a second and then go back. People are stunned by the beauty most of the time, mesmerized by nature.
Villages around Udala Mayurbhanj remain simple. There aren’t any hotels, or stalls lined up. Visitors stop to ask for directions soaking in nature, the stunning beauty of the place itself. That distance protects the place. There aren’t many crowds or any sudden noise.
Machakanda falls is not near highways and due to this it does not sit first in lists of Mayurbhanj tourist places. This Waterfall Mayurbhanj hides itself and is an underrated gem.
