Esplanade / Chowringhee / Park Street
This is where most of you should start looking from as it’s the area I keep coming back to myself. The best part is that all the biggest pandals are within walking distance. They are right by the Esplanade metro. It is also quite close to Red Road from the Durga Puja Carnival. This is also the place where most of the famous Kolkata hotels like The Oberoi Grand and The Lalit Great Eastern along the Peerless Hotel.Â
Rashbehari / Gariahat / Ballygunge
If South Kolkata’s pandals are your priority and it makes sense as many of the city’s most beautiful themed pandals sit here. Gariahat itself doubles as the shopping district, so you get pandal access and Puja shopping in the same neighborhood. Hyatt Centric is a beautiful 3-star option and Treebo ASL Prime and Park Palace Hotel are decent mid-range options.
Shyambazar / Sovabazar
North Kolkata’s pandal cluster is dense and genuinely walkable in a way South Kolkata isn’t always. Many of the most historic, family-run pujas sit within a few streets of each other here. It’s a quieter, less touristed base overall, which some people prefer and others find inconvenient given fewer big-hotel options.Â

This is the area to pick if you want a quiet room to actually sleep in after a long night of pandal-hopping. Howrah / near stations

Although during Puja-week, the rates will get a little high so it’s better to book in advance here as well. These hotels have basic amenities like clean, functional, you’re paying for location, not comfort.

Honestly, this is my favourite budget range because you get the Peerless Hotel near Esplanade which is a 4-star pick with a really good pricing compared to their servicing. In Gariahat/Ballygunge, Treebo ASL Prime and Park Palace Hotel offer good hotels which are quite close to South Kolkata’s pandal circuit. I think this is the best budget range as the facilities and the locations are top notch.
₹6,000–12,000
Hyatt Centric Ballygunge is probably one of the best picks in South Kolkata especially if pandals are your focus. You will also have the Novotel Kolkata and ibis Kolkata Rajarhat which are also in close proximity to the Salt Lake/New Town side. Note that these places sell out fastest of the mid-to-upper tier as Puja approaches.
Luxury / Heritage
If you are looking for a luxurious experience this puja than a retreat toThe Oberoi Grand is a perfect choice for you. You can also go for The Lalit whose roots are from 1841, which makes it one of the oldest operating hotels of the country. Taj Bengal in Alipore and ITC Sonar are also very good choices for a luxurious experience.Â

Let me be quite honest with you that homestays are a far better value and a better choice during Puja week. Also there is a certain experience you get staying with a Bengali family during Puja week which not even not the most luxurious hotels can provide.
